This book, by Hiro Arikawa, was a nice break after the more depressing and serious stuff I’ve been reading lately. It was the story of a young man and his cat, told by the cat. Together, they travel and visit some of the young man’s childhood friends, and some of their pets, too. There were many surprises, especially towards the end of the book. It was not all happy, but overall it was a sweet story. I did cry towards the end, when I remembered my departed kitties that I still miss so much. The story-telling cat has a great sense of humour and a wonderful vision of the world and of humans around him. The audio book narrator did a good job, with all the human and animal voices, it was quite funny at times.

Thank you for your review. According to it, this book seems to be worth reading.

About cats and Japan, there is also this collection of graphic novels whose ninth volume has been published in French lately. https://www.casterman.com/Bande-dessinee/Catalogue/le-vieil-homme-et-son-chat-9-sont-de-bon-poil/9782203237469 I know who prefer listening to books, but if you follow the link, you can flip through some pages of this graphic novel.
