Never Split the Difference

I decided to read this book because I am often frustrated when I have to defend myself or argue with someone. This book offers many strategies on how to negotiate a better salary, a lower price on a car, a better rental fee, and the release of hostages (which is less useful to you and me on a daily basis, but who knows). He describes old and new negotiation theories and practices, what the police and the FBI do, how research in psychology has influenced the negotiating field, and many other interesting facts.

The problem with this book is that I could not focus on what was being said, because every time Voss said something, I started thinking about my own situations and how I could apply his suggestions… and so I missed what came next! It’s the kind of book that needs to be studied, not listened to at once.

Other than that, it was extremely interesting to hear about different big negotiation cases and how things were resolved (or not). The narrator was great, the book was relatively short, there are some really interesting strategies and suggestions, and I don’t regret having listened to it, but I don’t think I’ll remember as much as I would like to.

  1. « In a nutshell, you’d have more inspired if you had bought the book rather than listen to it. ». If you don’t agree with this sentence, I’m waiting for your reasoning 🙂.
