Hard Eight

This book is the eighth of a long series of books telling the story of Stephanie Plum, a « bond enforcer » (really, a bounty hunter), who lives a complicated love life and who always puts herself in dangerous situations.

This time, she is hired to find a divorced mother and her child who have disappeared, but every other bad person in the universe seems to be looking for them, too: the creepy ex-husband, the ex-husband’s lawyer, the nasty landlord, another very annoyingly successful and good-looking bond enforcer… Add to that some snakes and spiders, a perfect sister who got sacked because she spilled noodles onto her computer, a barfing dog, a sexy semi-financé, hungry Canadian geese, a gossiping grandma, a murderous rabbit, a lawyer who gets stuck in a dryer, a mysterious lover, Clinton, a few exploded cars, a niece who thinks she’s a horse, a dead man cut in half, and an overweight partner who sucks at babysitting and likes to shoot at anything and everything, and you get a hilarious story that never gets boring.

All this is told by a great narrator with a wonderful Jersey accent.

I missed books five and six because they had not yet been recorded at the time. I’ll read them after my next depressing books…
